As a new mom, most of my life and the world around me revolves around our toddler, who doesn’t stop moving, and the baby who never sleeps. Recently we’ve been spending so much time trying to make the Christmas season special for Annie and Ace, with the Christmas light drive throughs, the Santa breakfasts, the Christmas tree finding and decorating, the Hot White Chocolate mocktails, and the present buying and wrapping. We are one week out from Christmas and I just realized I haven’t really even thought about my own Christmas list. Luckily, I wasn’t starting from scratch as this new mom’s wish list has been a work in progress all year.
Keeping a List and Checking It Twice
I like to keep a running list throughout the year using the Holiday Gift List feature with Amazon. You can create and share a list of gift ideas for everyone in your household. Keeping a list throughout the year helps me remember the great gift ideas I come up with throughout the year when it’s time for birthdays and Christmas. Plus it’s easy to share with anyone who asks. Create your own holiday wishlist on Amazon. It isn’t too late!
A new mom’s wish list is a lot like my pre-mom version of a Christmas list, but more kid friendly or kid functional, or at least a reaction to something kid related. Like I said, my world is my kids. I tried to think of a few things I’d like for Christmas that were not kid related, but a few kid related things snuck in anyway.
New Mom’s Wish List
Fashion
- Sterling Silver Polished Heart Locket
It’s not often anymore that I wear jewelry since I’m home so often and zoom calls don’t justify nice jewelry. But on the day I go to the office and leave the kids at daycare, I would love to be able to have Ned, Annie and Ace close to my heart. So a locket with their photos would be an amazing gift. - New Clothes
Most of my clothes are still either maternity clothes or just don’t fit right any more. One way to make me feel special would be to refresh the wardrobe with things that fit and are practical for my breastfeeding life. This shirt is loose enough, if I aire on the bigger side, to easily access the goods needed for breastfeeding. Plus it comes in many colors and can be layered with a cardigan for the winter season. I might need two. - New Tote Bag
When we only had one kid I didn’t mind carrying the diaper bag everywhere. The one we have is a backpack, so I could carry it and the baby at the same time. I still carry that same bag now with two kids, but for quick trips where I don’t need to be prepared for every little thing, like a quick trip to Target, it would be nice to have a purse big enough to carry just my usual purse things and one or two diapers just in case. I like this one in Milk Glass Multi by Kate Spade because of the zipper section and the pockets, although it’s a little more than I usually spend on bags. It’s probably worth it though for the functionality. - Ali Manno Scruncis
When I’m momming I’m definitely for keeping the hair out of my face. Usually that’s done without a mirror, no thought, just trying to get it out of the way. That being said, I really want to be cool enough for the Ali Manno Scrunci line at Walgreens. This Knit Headwrap and these Scarf Scrunci’s would make awesome stocking stuffers. Functional and adorable!
Home
- Images as Drawings
Admittedly I don’t know if this exists, but here’s the vision. I’d like to take a photo from each kid’s newborn photos, have someone turn it into a drawing and then print and frame it so I can hang it on the wall outside their room. In my head this picture would be the photo on the top and their birthday and birth details across the bottom. I’m thinking Etsy is a good resource for this.
- Coffee Mug & Nespresso Pods
Ace is five months old, and he still really loves waking ups for some middle of the night snuggles, and a snack. Usually a couple times a night. Needless to say, I am exhausted. So in the morning, second to Ned, my Copco travel coffee cup is my best friend, as long as it’s filled with a nice homemade latte. This coffee mug has done its job everyday for seven years. But it’s starting to show its age, so I’d like a new one to help me through these wonderful, sleepless nights. - Warm Blanket
Every night I still get the middle of the night snuggles with Ace while I feed him. Aside from being persistently tired, it’s also kinda cold getting up in the middle of the night. I often pull out an extra blanket from Ace’s baby blanket pile, but they’re just a little too small to cover my legs all the way to my shoulders with a baby breastfeeding too. So naturally, a warm oversized blanket had to make the new mom’s wish list.
P.S. If you’re looking for something else to warm you up this winter, check out this delicious, White Hot Chocolate recipe.
Beauty
- Clinique Moisture Surge Auto Replenishing Hydrator
This is my favorite moisturizer and I ask for it every year at Christmas. I can’t get enough of it. I love how it makes my face feel. With my skin it doesn’t feel oily. I can layer it on light for everyday use, or thicker as a 5 Minute Mask. It does wonders for my dry winter skin too. - Silk Pillowcase
I’m at that stage of postpartum that people forget to tell you about…the part where all of your beautiful pregnancy hair starts falling out and returning to it’s normal, less hormonal self. Silk contains natural proteins to protect your hair, and right now I can use all the protection I can get.
Fine Dining
- Wine
I’m still breastfeeding, so obviously I tread very lightly on this one. It’s rare that we drink and I take extra precautions to protect our baby, like making sure there’s enough time before I have to feed him again, and only having a small glass. That being said, for sanity purposes a bottle of wine would be a very appreciated gift this year. If you’re local to New Jersey I highly recommend taking a little trip to Cream Ridge, NJ to visit Cream Ridge Winery. They have the Sweet Riesling available right now, which I love, but honestly you can’t go wrong with a JerseyBerry or a Walnford. They have something for any wine mood I am in. - Bonus Gift Idea – Date Night Dinner Out with No Kids
Sometimes with all of the kid stuff going on I just miss my husband. He’s right there, but I just want to have uninterrupted time with a good meal and a glass of wine and not have to beg someone to eat just one more bite. Sounds like the most peaceful gift of all. Honey, if you’re reading this, I’ve always wanted to try Danny’s Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in Red Bank. Or I’m always up for something on the water, maybe Salt Creek Grill.
Someone please share this list with my husband. I’ll take one of everything!
